With 3 production sites in Germany and one production site in Shanghai, the Schäfer Group is an internationally recognised player in model making and the manufacture of test gauges, primarily for the automotive and aviation industries. In addition, Schäfer operates its own brand “Manufaktur Mos”, which specialises in custom-made items and small series in the luxury segment and thus focuses on the trend of increasing individualisation. The Schäfer Group offers its customers a full-service solution and accompanies them from the idea to the finished product. The services offered range from design and construction to the electrification of finished models. The unique selling points of the group are the comprehensive know-how of its highly skilled employees, the high vertical range of manufacture and the modern machine park.
As part of a focus on highly specialised industrial technology outside the automotive industry, the Schäfer Group was declared non-core within the listed industrial holding company INDUS Holding AG and the decision was taken to divest the business.
Due to its relatively small size and lack of strategic importance, Schäfer was severely restricted in its business development under its previous owner. With the positioning on the market as a completely independent group, considerable development opportunities arise for Schäfer. For instance, Schäfer Group is to function as platform for a buy-and-build strategy in the very fragmented and struggling model making segment in the future. In addition, the vertical range of manufacture will be further expanded with targeted investments in operating resources. Furthermore, the own brand “Manufaktur Mos” is to be positioned more strongly on the market via marketing campaigns and will thus serve both as a profitability driver and to diversify market risks.
