Halo Steelrings S.A. (“Halo”) manufactures seamless rolled steel rings for a wide range of customers, including leading manufacturers of slewing rings, gearboxes and bearings, especially for the wind power industry. In addition, the company produces steel tyres for trams and trains. Rings can be produced up to an outer diameter of 4.5 metres and a weight of 4 tonnes.
A lack of focus on the steel ring business within the ArcelorMittal Group and a lack of investments led to difficulties in keeping pace with changing customer needs. The divestment process was initiated in order to sell the non-core activity of steel ring production and to refocus on the core business.
Various measures, such as optimizing energy consumption and the value chain, were initiated to achieve a sustainable improvement in margins. Likewise, both purchasing and sales were broadened in order to enter new procurement and sales markets. An extensive investment project is intended to cover dynamic customer needs in the future and maintain competitiveness in the long term.
